Plain Text Email Format

A plain text email contains only text—no images, stylized fonts, or hyperlinks.

Multi-part MIME (Multipurpose Internet Mail Extensions) bundles together a plain text version and an HTML version of the deployed email. This means that when you send a designed email campaign through an email provider like Campaign Monitor, there will also be a plain text email sent automatically.

Spam filters prefer to see a plain text alternative to ensure the email deployment is legitimate. Those that need help reading an email may opt for the plain text version for their screen readers And if your recipient is using a version of Outlook that automatically disables images, that plain text email format is going to be vital to them understanding what the email is about.

Most email providers have tools to preview and edit the plain text format of your email. It’s a good practice to review the plain text email format before hitting send on a campaign, so you know your delivered campaign will look good to every recipient.
